Conditions that benefit from the application of magnetotherapy include all common bone and joint dysfunctions, bone healing, some digestive and gynaecological disorders, diabetes and many others. The most important benefit of static magnetic fields is that they have no particular counter indications. Permanent magnets excite and sort electrons, therefore the tissues in our bodies (which are sensitive to this action) are stimulated.

The magnetic flux penetrates under the skin by 2-5 centimetres, depending on the power (determined in Gauss) of the magnets, and this is how the effect is achieved. Furthermore, it has been discovered that inside our body, just like that of some animals, there are tiny crystals of a substance defined as biogenic magnetite. In other words, these are magnetic micro crystals produced by our own body which are positively influenced by magnetic flux.

Did you know that…?

“Some bacteria that live in water are influenced by magnetic fields and  contain tiny magnetite crystals. These bacteria are biological magnets and even when they are dead they align themselves in a North – South direction just like the needle of a compass. Many other animals share this characteristic with these bacteria. For example insects, birds, tuna fish and dolphins all have magnetic cells in their bodies. If you think about it, internal nature is surrounded by the Earth’s geomagnetic field, therefore it is obvious that it has provided its creatures with the possibility of exploiting this resource”

To the present day, magnetotherapy is used more and more often to contrast all problems regarding joints and bones: traumas, sprains and joint pain. There are magnetic bands available on the market designed to target and adapt to specific areas of the body.

These bands must be worn and maintained until all symptoms of pain have disappeared. They can be used in post-traumatic therapies, for example after a fracture, and also as prevention. The latter is recommended for people suffering from seasonal, periodical or frequent pain. The use of these magnets interrupts the pain, encourages the formation of bone tissue after a trauma and allows complete recovery of the limb.

“There is a lot of scientific research that supports the use of magnetotherapy in bone disorders. Especially after fractures, when there is a delay in the formation of a bridging callus. Because the therapy does not generate heat, it can also be used with metal implants, such as in hip or knee replacements. (La Sapienza University, Rome)

The magnetic bands contain magnets from the Wellness line by Compo Tech Co. consisting in bands made of flexible magnetic rubber or sintered magnetic disks. The magnets generate the permanent magnetic field necessary to treat the affected area.

Exposure to magnetic fields is not recommended for pregnant women, haemophiliacs, people with heart failure or wearing a pacemaker.
